A Spoonie in the Making

Updated: Aug 27, 2024

Invisible symptoms like pain, fatigue, and mood disorders that affect your quality of life for more than a year may be evidence of a chronic illness.

Picture this – It's just past midnight, and I'm at the kitchen sink, elbow-deep in suds, washing the parts to my pump. Suddenly, my shoulders ignited in a fiery ache, and my neck felt like it had turned to stone. It was a familiar pain, one I had experienced before.

Perhaps the weariness of being a new mom was settling into my muscles, and all I wished for was to swap the sink for my cozy bed. Balancing being a teacher, a new mom, and a young woman grappling with my own daily battles, each day felt like a strenuous journey.

I held onto the hope of stealing precious moments with my little one and grabbing some much-needed rest, believing it could somehow dissolve this persistent pain. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a lifelong struggle.
